Labor Day Weekend Recap

Updated: Sep 5, 2019

It was my best friends 25th birthday this weekend. What a whirlwind. We had a jam packed weekend full of yummy food, craft beer, and solid relaxation.

Friday evening started with Rusty's Watering Hole in New Richmond, WI for dinner. It is a great rustic venue with all home cooked food.

Then we ventured back to Stillwater to hang out with Maddie. We went to Ziggy's and listened to a new band called Hitfaced. Very fun crowd. The variety of music was great. The guitaritst put it well when he came over to chat that "if you don't like the song we are presently playing, wait three and a half minutes until the next one". And goodness gracious he was right. I'm talking AC/DC to Lady Gaga to Prince. It was a mish mash of everything and they kept their crowd engaged which is critical. I love supporting local live music (obvi) and I'll definitely be back to see this one.

Then of course we ended the night at PD Pappy's for Your Dad's Band. Another great local live music hangout. They have an amazing patio right on the St. Croix and new bands Thursday-Sunday nights, but make sure you check it out before the season ends for them Mid-October.

Then we were up and going early Saturday morning to celebrate Kenz's actual birthday with a birthday breakfast with Kasey at Mon Petit Cheri. Kenz got her favorite citrus ricotta pancakes, I got the farmers breakfast, and Kasey got french toast. This place is a true gem in the heart of downtown. The space is beautiful and the food is a bonus.

After breakfast Kenz and I hit the road for a Duluth day trip. She wanted to check out the new Bent Paddle Brewery. Bent Paddle was the best brewery tour we'd ever gone on when we went 2 years ago in their old space, so an excuse to check it out again was perfect for our venture to the cabin. We meandered around Canal Park, we ate and drank at Canal Park brewing, then we ended our adventure at Bent Paddle. I cannot say enough about their new space, excellent staff, and sublime beers. We did flights and no surprise they didn't disappoint. The attention to detail in their brewery is second to none. Their commitment to the environment with their "pack in and pack out" trash policy, gender neutral bathrooms, gorgeous patio space, the list goes on. Seriously it's an absolute must if you are in Duluth.

From Duluth we headed to Kenz's family cabin for a relaxing weekend, unplugged. I read, I indulged in some amazing home cooked food, we went to the races, and conversation.

Let's get into racing. If you haven't ever been to a dirt track race please do it. It is so fun. There's nothing cooler than loud cars, going fast, picking your favorites each heat, and of course the company.

The weekend was great, but I was very ready to come home today for a relaxing evening with the fam.

A peek at what we are eating is coming tomorrow, so stay tuned!
